movie review: indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull

" Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull "
'Harrison Ford is ancient, but still badass.'
Directed by Steven Spielberg
Released: May 22nd, 2008

I think to appreciate this movie, you will have to look at it as a separate entity from the first three entries in the series. While it doesn't provide the amazing qualities of the first three, Crystal Skull has several enjoyable qualities of its own.

First, looking at it solely as an Action/Adventure movie, it's solid. Not great, but solid. The fight scenes are intense and had me on the edge of my seat for the majority of the film and the fact that Indiana Jones seems to make it look easy makes it even better. The scene in the armored

Second, I saw at it as a breaking out party for Shia LaBeouf. I enjoyed his character and his acting throughout the entire movie, and he was also involved with some of the best action scenes. He's a talented actor and I'm glad he was in this movie. Crystal Skull also featured other great actors. Harrison Ford and Karen Allen were back for this installment, as well as Ray Winstone, John Hurt, and Cate Blanchett.

Finally, Cate Blanchett. If you are debating whether to see this movie...do it for her. Why, you ask? Let's see...she's hot, she played a really bitchy/domineering Soviet Colonel scientist with a nasty attitude who can wield a sword and fight better than most of the men, and she's arrogant. That should be more than enough reason to go.

Overall, I can't say there was anything I really disliked about it. I thought there were a lot of great action scenes with some fitting comic relief mixed in here and there. Harrison Ford did get old looking, but is in amazing shape for his age (64). He really did do a wonderful job in preparing for the role and it is noticeable in the film. I think if there was anything wrong with it, it is that it doesn't really compare in greatness to the original movies.

I would recommend seeing this movie if you like Action/Adventure movies or you just have nothing else to see. Hardcore Indiana Jones fans may be disappointed.

Things to Watch For: Indiana Jones says the line "I've got a bad feeling about this." Harrison Ford said this same exact line when he played Hans Solo in Star Wars, another film series created by George Lucas who likes to use the line in a lot of his movies; the girl who punches Shia LaBeouf in the diner is Steven Spielberg's daughter; in one of the scenes that takes place in the Hangar, the 'Ark of the Covenant' from Raiders of the Lost Ark can be seen in one of the crates; Harrison Ford purposely told screenwriter David Koepp to add jokes about his old age into the script.

My rating: 7/10
Positives: Great cast/acting, intense and action-packed fight scenes, Cate Blanchett
Negatives: Storyline is only decent, Shia LaBeouf shined more than Harrison Ford did, in Soviet Russia movie watches you
